Default Great Horned Owl With Prey

    Hi,
Here is a Great Horned Owl with a rabbit that it had caught at Neck Point here in Nanaimo B.C. Had to chase him a bit as he kept changing trees due to the other birds harassing him. Finally managed to get this shot at 9:00pm a feat that could only be done in the summer as the light lasts much longer.

    Stats: Canon 50D, 500mm + 1.4X, ISO 800, 1/2 sec at F/8

    Thanks for looking,

    Steve

Wow, great capture for both of you. Very nice EXP and detail, habitat is where they live. I think it's a bit tight in the frame and the angle steep. Having said that, I wish it was on my files :)
Afgree about the light, especially up North. Sunset here doesn't wait that long.

Looks like maybe the focus was on the tail or body, not the eye. Nicely done getting one in habitat with a clear view! This is one spectacular bird!

    TFS!

    Hi Steve,

Nice capture. Your persistence paid off. I think this is an interesting image. The image provides a sense of place and a story with the prey. I would tone down the couple of bright stops in the background. Good detail especially at 1/2 second. It is a bit morbid but, I wish I could see more of the rabbit.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your nice comments. This owl is a regular for this time of year in the park. He always seems to show up when the eagles disappear to take their fledglings up north for the summer. He also likes to dine on rats and snakes so I will attempt to get a shot of him with one of those in a less distracting environment.

    Take care,

    Steve
