Very dark BG and early morning lighting led me to experiment with higher ISO. Knowing that the noise increases considerably after ISO 800 with D300 I was experimenting with the settings when the Spoonbill flew in.

Hi Ken, I would say you did a good job with this . Nice wing position and well placed in the frame. I like the dark backround while still seeing the detail. The base of the neck is a tad hot but to my eye not a major factor to the overall...

Hi Ken This was a tough one !! Did well with exposure taking it to the limit and glad you raised the ISO !

Pose is not bad but would like seeing both wings and the water/bag not helping much !! Did the best possible from your position !!

Thanks Dave and Al. I knew it was tough and could have been better in several ways (not my best). I posted it in light of the recent discussions by Al and Fabs regarding noise and bumping up the ISO. Figured that it might help others that are also learning and may want to experiment and see the results

Hi Ken in this one the bg is under exposed but it can't be help, the noise will come in when you start opening the bg for detail !! You gave the bird as much as possible !!

Hi Ken - gorgeous birds these - wish we had the pink ones out here - we get the plain white ones.
As mentioned think you nailed the exposure - IMHO expose for the bird - let the BG fall were it may.
    Its a nice lens the 300 F2.8.
    Keep em coming :)

nice landing pose Ken, and stands out nice against BG, neck and some feathers a tad hot. Good suggestion above, just expose for the bird and worry about the rest later! TFS
