???? anyone know why this does not exist? that would be so handy for fixing the BG's !
I cannot think of any reason this is could not be put in there, they have a brush for nearly everything else

Maybe it's as simple as giving us all a reason to fork out more $$$ when LR 4 comes out.
I haven't tried it, but you could use the sharpening brush with a -100 setting. It should blur the crap out of any noise...
Though, I'd rather they add the masking feature to noise reduction like they have in sharpening(with the option to invert the mask)
Bingo!!! The Masking feature would have been a nice addition in CS5 as well.
I use the TLR Professional Mask Toolkit for quick generation of Edge (sharpening) and Surface (noise reduction) masks in CS... http://www.thelightsrightstudio.com/...askToolkit.htm
Best,

hmm never tried the negative sharpen I will give that a try and see how it works
Negative contrast sometimes will smooth it out, too. Or just leave sharpening and contrast set low on the image to keep noise out of the BG, and then use the brush to apply sharpening and contrast as desired to your main subject.
yeah I have been using the brush for the sharpening but at high iso the noise levels need to be reduced sometimes
This is one of those features that Aperture has and does extremely well with the auto edge masking feature. I wish Adobe had it.
My wife uses Aperture and I use LR3. She seems to get more done in less time and with less expertise than I do in LR3.
