Denise Ippolito was at Nickerson Beach friday night photographing this OC nest....so this chick hatched sometime in the night or early morning during our workshop there yesterday. This OC was sitting near some wood and junk on the beach......so a crop removed the man made wood and beach clean up in pp'ing took care of the rest. I left the stick on the left.....but have considered removing it.
Canon 1D Mark lll with the Sigma 300-800mm @ 800mm at f7.1 for 1/1250 sec. and ISO 800. All tripod mounted w/ wimberly head.....croped additional off top to pano....just to accentuate the chick and parent. She/he is still sitting on 2 eggs!
Sweet light and wonderful composition. Seems like you can't win. If you make the blacks darker someone will ask for more detail and if you keep them lighter , with detail someone will want them darker.:(:(:(
I think it is fine as is. But what do I know?????;);)
Roman - love the low angle and the intimacy here between mom and chick. agree the blacks could be blacker for my tastes, but I've never seen this species of OC before so take it with a pinch of salt. Wood is fine for me.
Hey Roman, Make that one egg. Another egg hatched between last night and this morning. I will probably post it's new sibling in a few. Great workshop and lots of fun. I really like the tenderness in this image and capturing this chick just hours old is priceless!:)
Thanks all! Fortuntely the blacks are an easy fix!!! Joe.....too funny!!! As always......it's just a privelidge to witness this.....cluttered Bg's and all....that's what keeps me out there!
