    Default Arctic Tern

Well, the tern's have arrived, and they are hungry! With the ice breaking up and holes starting to appear in the light green water, so do the small fish and shrimp. There was about 20 terns feeding at the beach yesterday, and I made the most of it. The background is the ice breakup from the bay!

Looks good to me, sharp, good detail and I would have guessed it was clouds, not ice in the BG. Very nice.

HI charles!....I love the sharpness and pose of the tern! I am not sure what the bottom is...clouds? water? I think I would crop the bottom white somewhat or perhaps all together!

I like the pose and thought it was clouds. I might run some NR and clone out the three spots near the bottom. Is the beak usually a more orange colour?

Here is a re-worked version of the picture. I ran a little bit of NR of the BG, cropped it a bit, and got rid of the three spots in the BG. I think that was just random junk on the ice, as this spot is close to the dump!

Tom, that's what most people say about the BG, clouds! But the ice is breaking up so fast that the rises are about 20 feet tall!

Bob, as I said in my original post, the BG is the ice breaking up! Thanks for looking!

Jackie, the new version I have done what you noticed. Better? As for the color of the beak, I don't know! This was a first time for me.

Hi Charles - like the setting.
The shadow under the wing is a little distracting - the repost has some blue fringing evident around the wings that was not present in the OP. Wing position is not ideal, fully up or fully down being preferred - but this works here as it gives the intention of the bird hovering.
Prefer the OP - needs a tad more contrast on the bird - IMHO - just looks a little flat.
Might have gone horizontal to include more of the ice perhaps??

Thanks Michelle, wildlife is slowly showing up!

Lance, the sun & wind were in the wrong spot, so nothing I could have done about the shadows. I don't think it detracts too much, so thanks for noting & looking!

I do, in fact, have a pano version. I upped the contrast a tad & corrected the blue fringing on the wings. Thanks for that, I had not noticed.

Hi Charles, I like the last post the best. The bird is better positioned and the ice (most would think it's clouds) is minimalised. To my eye there was a slight caste but It's improved in the repost.

Either composition would work for me, both different and interesting !!!

Agree with comments and main thing that catches my eye is the cast .... also need soft light to make them guys work well !!
