    Default Hanging Out

This American Kestrel chick didn't have enough place to practice flapping in the nest and was hanging there for a while before he fell out of the nest with the 'friendly' help of a sibling.

Very nice image! Maybe toning down the trunk a bit would make the bird pop a bit more.

    Hi Axel,

I really like this one. A different presentation that I find very engaging and pleasing. I love how the view of the wings. Nice head angle with great detail. I find the green background complimentary to the bird. I even like the textures of the tree. Well done. I wouldn't change a thing.

Love this one, Axel. "Help, I'm stuck and I can't get out..." I agree that toning down the trunk a bit is worth a try. Nice eye contact.

Axel I really like this image with the natural nest hole. The whole frame works well, wing spread, tree, BG.

I'm loving these kestrel shots and the built-in stories that come with them. I like the way the bird blends with the tree. You could walk by and totally miss this action.

Axel - f/8 seems to be the perfect choice for the blurred background and good depth of field on the chick. The 3rd chick fledged Wednesday and the adults are feeding them in the nearby trees. I hope all 3 of them made it.

Axel, that is a true hanging out.
Love the shot, plus the killer BG.

Nice light and fantastic moment captured here Axel. Do you have some frames of this guy from a shooting position located a couple of steps to the right? It would be great to get the bird against the green BG

Thanks, Juan! I tried that but couldn't see much of the bird anymore when head and trunk were separated.

I like the comp, and good to see the wings on either side of the nest. I remember your other image from this series. Are they not mature enough to fly yet? Looks quite well developed.

Thanks, Stuart! The wings looked fully developed and I guess they should have been able to fly once they tried it.

Exceptional capture, Axel. Very unique, I have never seen a photograph like this before.
