    Default Macro advise plz

    Hi all just need a little advise i am looking into starting a little macro stuff and wondered which you think is best for a starter

    105mm f/2.8 EX DG

    Tamron 90mm f2.8 SP DI

    will be going on my 7d

    Hey Jason,
    If you have the extra $200.....get the 180mm range. I have the Sigma 180mm and I have heard great things about the 150mm also. I recommend this for several reasons.....the greater working distance doesn't spook the critters as easily (if that is what you are going after) and the longer distance also allows your flash to work at a better angle if you get close. I find the shorter lengths effective if you are shooting through glass (aquariums and such) but prefer my 180 over the 90.....so much so that I sold the 90mm! Not a huge price difference but one worth investing in.

    Agree about the added focal length for beginner macros. I use my EF 70-200 f/4L IS with an extender and diopiter and find myself almost always out at 150mm and beyond.

    Hi Jason Agree with Roman !! Would go for the 180 Sigma particularly if you go after bugs !!
