    Lance,

Don't think I would bin it (trash it in your part of the world) but I wouldn't make a A3 poster of it either. The main problems I see with it are the ruffled feathers on the neck seem OOF and this distracts from the image and the beak in the water - not sure why I don't like it but I don't get a sense of motion. Love the water reflection on the feather.

Go raibh maith agat agus slan

    Michael

Unless you want behavior shot I think I would trash it. Your other shots of the same bird are better. The oof portions don't work for me.

    Thanks,
    Rachel

:) If this was my shot, I'd keep it because I never can get close to these guys. ;) If I had your other shots in my portfolio, I'd binnit.

    Lance,

Greetings. Close but no cigar pile... oof and the spotlight adds less than desirable reflections (IMO).

    Cheers,

Keep ... and edit, of course. I don't mind the odd light reflected on the bird. Kinda neat.

    I'll join the fun :)

Given the number of these you have I would deep six the image. I'm sure there are other with the head pointing more to the film place which would make it more attractive Also not sure why the feathers on the back of the neck are not sharp .. motion? Neat bird !!!

Hi Lance.....I prefer the upper bg to be much darker as in DT repost....I really like the color in the water but the actual image of the bird is not that strong for me....I would probably trash it if I had others that were better.

Just to add to my previous response. The reason that even I :D will trash this photo is that, despite the exposure, sharpness and light all look good, I find the pose of the bird awkward, the background is not pretty enough to save the picture (if this was primarily a scenic shot with the bird in the foreground that may work), and the head of the bird is too low and too close to the water (it could work if it's a close-up shot of that only). As just a portrait shot, the pose doesn't look too good to me. I think it's the composition that is hurting the photo.

This could probably be an example of, even if you get everything right on camera, you still do not necessarily have a good photograph :)

Trash for me - Like the spotlight effect and was what I was trying to capture with just the eye visible above the waterline.
Wish the head/eye was parallel to me and the feathers on the neck were sharp - not sure what caused this - perhaps motion as indicated by AL.
BG is what it is and can be cleaned up if so desired.

I'd trash it, for the reasons mentioned. Head turned away, oof neck, and spotlight effect (otherwise known as uneven lighting) doesn't work for me here.

Knowing your high standards, I knew you would say trash. The number one killer IMO is the HA, and then probably the BG which is not too attractive. (you did ask for opinions:))
