    Default Skimmer Banking

First time shooting skimmers, in flight shots near the nests were definitely not easy. I found it tough with the summer weather in FL, light constantly change with heavy clouds around. Good way to learn for sure.
Cloned out an OOF skimmer on the lower left frame on the sand. Maybe a bit tight but caught it in the upper part of the image.
Comments and critiques are greatly appreciated!

The contrasting head and wing angles took me a few seconds to figure out. :) It does seem to fit rather awkwardly in the frame. The BG provides good indication of habitat, and not at all distracting either.

Techs look good and nice exposure in spite of the challenging conditions you mentioned.

Hi Troy, The banking away shot is not the norm that we see posted but I still like it. The background gives a sense of place. I have never been a fan of the square crop so that is probably what is not working for me here, more room in front of the bird would help IMO.

    Good Shooting!

    Thank you guys.
It is actually a 16x20 crop. Must be the position of the bird giving it a square feel.

The pose does look appealing, despite the bird angling away from you. Good BG, but I would fill in the light spot at left edge with some greenery, and also eliminate the small dark band in LRC's edge. These touch-ups will nicely make the eges cleaner and strenghten the comp IMO.

Daniel has some good suggestions. Really like the overall feeling of this image and the BG is really very beautiful and adds to this image. Although the skimmer is banking away it is still very pleasing. thanks for sharing.

Very painterly BG, this would have qualified for the creative project, since it is not the traditional pose.
I'll be the contrarian and wouldn't touch the BG, it is not uniform and it shows the shape of the bush. Painterly is the word I was looking for.
I know what you mean about photographing in the Florida summer heat. Perspiration gets into your eyes and makes you half blind :)

Congrats on your first of this species, its always great to bag your first one. Well exposed to bring out the eye, and I like the full wingspread.

Thank you Fabs. Can I still change the title to make it a creative project?
Heat plus the constant light change from cloudy to bright sun...:o

Thanks, Danie and Judy. I would probably touch the LRC as those were from the OOF skimmers.

Stuart, not sure if I could call this bagging the shot. :) I will go back again.
