Usual fractalius, except before using the plugin I blurred the background, using Topaz DeNoise 3 which has a super smooth preset(not in ver4). My usual technique; dup layer, apply DeNoise to bottom layer, erase background in top layer. By the way, using NR avoids the nasty halos that occur when using Gaussain blurs with the same technique. Anyway, since the background was so smooth fractalius had little effect on it, and no grain(or noise) appeared. comments and critique welcomed. regards~Bill
I just noticed a dark area to the left of the birds leg that I should have removed.

Bill, Sweet! I do wish the BG branch were not there but you did a wonderful job toning it down from view. Excellent feather details and the effect is subtle. Well done:)

As always Bill, nicely done, blurring the background really makes the Heron stand out...

I love the technique you used here, Bill. As Denise said, it toned down the BG enough that it becomes part of the image instead of a major distraction. Nicely done!
