    Default Pied Kingfisher

Went through some of my kingfisher images from a recent trip and quite liked this one.

The bird was baited with a small fish from the same pond...I was using a loaned 7D (I only got mine a few weeks later) for the first time and couldn't get it off Zone AF...I must say it performed pretty well on that setting.

    Techs:
    Canon 7D with 100-400mm L IS USM
    f5.0 @ 1/2500 SS @ ISO-2000
    Exp +0.3
    Shutter priority, auto-ISO

I think the Zone AF on the 7D works pretty good too. Right now I am using single point with expansion as I get more familiar with the camera.

I would have preferred to see the head and wing not merging. Also the centralized location of the bird in the frame is not working for me. I would crop him out of the center.

BG nice and clean and exposure looking good but you do have a hot white area on the head.

You did well given the situation but it looks somewhat soft and lacking in fine details, not sure if it is the focus or motion blur. The image you posted on NSN forum (same KF?) is way way better than this, I am confused why you posted this one instead of that excellent shot

    thanks Robert & Arash...

Arash, I actually like this one as much, maybe due to the soft colour tones and the pose, and I mostly try to post different images at different times on the various forums I participate in :)

Robert I hear you about the placement...this just felt like the right one during processing as I wanted to include as much of the nice colours in the BG as possible.

The light looks sweet, and I like the flying posture. You guys must have had fun on that dam.
