    Default Wild Horse Portrait

This is a Banker Horse found on Bird Shoals, Rachel Carson Estuarine Reserve near Beaufort, NC. I found a group of four horses... one stallion and his harem of three mares. This is one of the mares. Shot from the kayak, hand held. Canon 40D, Bigma @ 500mm, iso1000, f/8.0, 1/800. Sharpening and curves adjustment in CS3. Very slight crop on this one... probably around 90% full frame shown.

Lovely image, nicely composed. Almost looks as if you could have stopped down another stop with the clean bg, but probably didn't want to sacrifice any more shutter speed -- I know that shooting from a kayak can sometimes be a bit wobbly. Might be possible to lighten the eye a bit.

I like the low angle. Not sure if the eye could be sharpened up a little?

Hi Bob - think you could coax a little more sharpness from this perhaps.
Sharpening just the eye might also help!!
Like the light and the composition.

Better? Additional sharpening, a little lightening of the eye and some noise reduction. (I don't like the color shift I always get from noiseware though).

I agree with Harold that the light and color of the first was better but the sharpness is improved on the repost. Comp is great. Lovely image.

    Heres my vision :)
Have overdone the sharpening a little to make it easier to see.

    Bob,
Lance's version is great. Good image to start with.
This shot reminds me of David Cramer who passed away not long ago. RIP, David.

    Hi Bob

Would take all the shutter speed you can from the start, going wide open might be the way to go. The little bit of extra shutter speed will come in handy in the boat !! Would also try to place the af point on the eye area !!

You are nailing some interesting things from the boat !! btw thought about this crop ... crop from left to just after the start of the mane.
