    Default Jackson Hole Elk

From last Dec/Jan trip to YNP, very little snow at the Elf Refuge so sleds ran on wheels. Lots of elk to shoot and a must try during a visit. Best to do the regular tour and not arranging a custom tour.

Refuge came about after the town of Jackson grew and blocked the pass for the elk, now they hang around the area and wait to be fed !! Lots of them !!

    Comments welcome and much appreciated

Lovely colors. I like the pose & how he blends in with the environment. Based on the broken tine, it looks like he had a rough rut. I would like to see a catch light in his eye, but it looks like the day was very overcast.

Nice pose. Is there a magenta cast or is my laptop out of calibration?

Hi Al... I like the small patches of snow in front and behind this guy - kind of sets him up nicely in my opinion. Nice detail and pose... he looks like he had seen some action earlier in the fall with that tine tip missing. ;-)

This looks nice. Perhaps a tad less space at the bottom and a bit more up top?

Another nice shot with mood Alfred. Nice detail in the fur and I like the different textures of the grasses.

Hi Al, comp works very well as usual, like the almost monochromatic feel, perhaps a nice rich duotone or straight B/W might be the answer on this one. WDYT?

    Steve :)

BTW Andy is having a real blast at the moment, but with very little sleep. Hope Fabs has been following his updates on Facebook.

Al - another great YNP shot. Like the comp and mood. Agree that color of repost looks better.

Hi Steve Yes Fabs keeps up with Andy's every more on Facebook :)

... will give the image try with straight B&W Interesting all of the ones I took that day (many many) had the same cast without any change in settings !!

..B&W conversion and took tiny bit from the bottom, image was full frame as presented from camera... forgot to add a catchlight but would have brighten the eye !!!

beautiful portrait, I love the delicate tones of the grasses and hoe they compliment the coat of the elk....
I love B&W as you know but the colour version has more impact...

Alfred, I don't know if there was a color cast or not, but I prefer pane #1. I also like the composition, except I would take a little off the bottom.
