    Default Destin Dolphins with oil

I was culling some photos from last week and just realized that one of the dolphins had oil on it. I didn't even notice before bc the pic was not a keeper. I guess I thought it was seaweed until I saw another post on another forum. I sent the pic to a marine biologist that said it was indeed oil. Sad to see but hopefully it will not affect this dolphin. It was quite the showoff and was fun to watch.

Hopefully this dolphin will make it. I was listening to a radio program and they said that most birds died within 6 or seven days after they had been washed of oil. They say the oil can do irreparable damage to the liver and kidneys.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that wonderful dolphin will probably die due to exposure to this oil - crude oil is very toxic - see http://www.sciencecorps.org/crudeoilhazards.htm.

You can see it on these two dolphins as well.

How fortunate we are to be so close to the Dolphins.... and to be able to photograph them in the Gulf...but these pictures are just heartbreaking

Bob do you have any good "honey holes" for birds between Destin and Panama City, especially the Santa Rosa Beach area?

No Chris I dont know anything around there. I was on vacation and really didnt get to shoot very much. However, there are birds all over the beaches and especially the fishing piers. Good luck!
