    Default Northern Harrier

Heavy crop, removed some twigs around birds feet, toned down brightness in background using burn tool, some b/c.
    f/8.0, 1/800, +1 exposure compensation, RAW,
    5D MKII, 300mm 2.8, 1.4x

Not sure why I used f/8.0, normally set it at 5.6,

Joe beautiful ibrd, wow, i look forward to seeing this thru my lens some day. Like it, would have prefered a oof bkg, however i've done the same before. It's a natural habitat shot though. Sounds like it was a tough shot and hard to do better.

Love seeing the harrier. I agree with Don about the BG. What a tangle for him to have perched in. I think he was just taunting you. :D

    Joe,
It could use another round of sharpening. TFS.

you were close on the focus. i just think you need a little more sharpening on the eye of the bird. looks like you did a nice job on the processing elsewhere. that's one beautiful bird!!!

I think focus is just fine. A tad more sharpening would help, BTW the bird is SO tiny in the frame, the red AF box is barely 2% of the 5D2 full frame image so my guess is the harrier is less than 5% of the FF  but you can still get something with the 5D2, isn't that amazing :D ?

Hi, The head's softness is the main issue of the image and not sure if you can make it sharp enough with a round of sharpening. The only way to know is to try it.
I like the position of the subject and the overall lighting. For my taste I would take a bit off the top.

Like the overall setting and colours.
Bird does need some additional sharpening though!
    Exposure looks good.
    Keep em coming :)

    Great points and fully agree

Could also suggest getting lower (if possible) for a sweet perspective, also having the sun a bit more behind you would have lit up the entire bird, as presented should be easy to lighten the right side !!

The image as originally posted is essentially a 100% crop. It is not unusual to be able to get sharp 100% crops with the 5D2 as well as the original 5D. As suggested, I have done some localized sharpening and dodging. Thanks for all your comments.
