    Default Spoonbill

    Manual
    Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1000)
    Aperture: f/8.0
    Focal Length: 850 mm
    ISO Speed: 250
    Exposure Bias: +1/3 EV

Not many adults were out yesterday. Caught this one came in and was away from the group.
There were hundreds of Juvi ibis, first time around so many birds at once.

Troy - Very nice image, like the color, detail and BG. Too bad about the band on the leg. Is there something floating at the top of the wave or is it a reflection?

Nice one, Troy! Great colors, good sharp eye. Lovely muted background. Low shooting angle. Lots to like.

Beautiful shot, Troy. I like it as is, and would also probably like a wider crop (unless of course this is shot full frame :-)).

    Thank you Al.
Only a few adults came in that day, probably got tired of being chased by the Juvis.

I did a 16x24 crop and I decided to change it to 16x20 because it was too much space all over. It is a preference.
    Thank you.

It must be me, but something seems out of kilter here to me. There's no flash, but the lighting on the body looks artificial to me and not enough light on the neck and head in comparison. Help me understand what's going on with the light here.

I love the low angle and the great detail, particularly on the body.

David, I can't explain it either.
Although my WB was set at cloudy even though it was bright out. Could it be from that plus PP?

I don't see an issue with the WB, so maybe it's post. What did you do in post?

Thanks for taking my question with good spirit.

Just the usual, white/black points, curve, levels, brightness and contrast, and sharpening.

Looking more closely, I see a very strong light coming from the upper right, as evidenced by the shadow of the upper bill on the lower bill. If it's sunlight, then maybe the WB is just slightly off, making me see it as artificial when it's clearly not.

Don't get me wrong, I love the image. I'm just trying to figure out why the light looks a little strange to me.

    Thanks for responding.

    Excellent shot.
I see what David is talking about. I think a touch B/C and dodge the head to brighten the area around the eye would make a big difference.

BTW Troy, I looked at your excellent spoonbill Gallery and this is the only one that looks slightly off to me. I see that most of that gallery was done in very strong sunlight (well handled btw), but this one image doesn't have the same top to bottom evenness and balance as the others.

    David,
Not all spoonbills shots in my gallery were shot under the strong sunlight. A few were shots in a cloudy day. :)
