I was out at Merritt Island yesterday and found this mom with her chicks. The BG could be less cluttered, but that is where they were feeding. The sun had just come up over the horizon. Taken with the D300s and Nikon 500 f/4 with 1.4 TC, f/8, iso 800, 1/500.
Very cute shot. I have a couple of piping plover shots like this one. I know it is fun to watch the adult with the chicks.
I don't mind the stuff in the water because, it was there. If there had been just a few "clutters" I would say remove. If it bothers you, however, you can crop a tiny bit off the bottom to have less oof "clutter." That way it would be a progression of focused clutter to oof clutter from from to back.
I was trying to count the chicks, my best guess is 4 or 5. :) Look-back pose and sharpness look good. I think only a super low angle would have made a difference in this setting.
Before I read Axel's comment, I was counting the legs too. 6 chicks??? The one closest to us sure looks comfy and protected. The light on the adult's wing has shown up the colours nicely.
Nancy, Very nice capture. I love seeing the little chick peeking out from under the wing. I agree regarding the BG clutter-still a very nice family moment captured.
