Default Black Billed Magpie Breakfast Club

Magpie bringing breakfast to the screaming fledglings in the nest.

    7D + 400 f/5.6L, ISO 400, f/6.3, 1/1000, +0 EV's, beanbag + DodgePod :D

Seems like there's a bit much space at the top? I don't have any more cropping leeway at the bottom of the photo, but could tighten the crop around him. If I run the crop in landscape format, which I generally like, the branch has distracting shadowy spots further down.

Taken in morning light. Too bad there's NO DETAIL on his tail. Hrrrmph.

    C&C, please.

Hi Meesh I'm fine with the crop and bird placement, main concern is the light direction, comes from the right and the left part of the bird is in shadows !! .. look how nice the shadows look on the lit side compared to the shaded side !!!

Good bg, behavior and sure like how you got the perch to come out close to but not at the corner, very odd when it comes out of the corner.

Thanks for the comments, Alfred. You are exactly right, the light looked better when he was on the other side of the tree. I did get some photos of him in that position, too. The branches were busy from that side, however. After I work on removing some of the branches, I will post one of those for comparison. :D

Why does the prettiest perch HAVE to be facing the wrong direction? ;) :)

This looks like a black & white image. Would like to see more details in the dark areas. Did you blur the background with Gaussian blur? I would darken the perch if this were mine.

Thank you, Desmond. I agree about detail in the dark area. I reprocessed a copy and brought it up just a touch, and I think it's a little better.

Did not use gaussian blur for the BG, that is just the way it turned out.

The perch was darkened some in post (maybe 2/3 stop) but I agree it could be darkened more.

I did a quick BW conversion and you are right - it looks good! Thanks for the idea on that.
