It does have some appeal. I wish the birds were larger in the frame, but in original size it probably looks much better.

What about a bit of a different crop?

I like the crop suggestion Jim thanks. This just isn't an image that works at all small, thought I would put it up anyway.

    Nonda,

Jim's crop helps. Most of the ducks are facing away and there is no discernible interesting pattern that draws the viewers attention. Lacking a "center of interest" (http://photoinf.com/General/NAVY/Pho...on_Balance.htm), the viewer is left to wonder.

Robert you are right about the ducks heads but that is pretty standard around here when a human is spotted (move away even tho I was 150 + yards off), no cover or way to blend in there so you are. Not an excuse just what happens, I still love to watch them and all the wonderful colors.

    Thanks much Alfred.

I like Jim's crop. The colors are pleasing and it's kind of fun to look through the group to see what kinds of ducks are there and what they are all doing. Looks like several must be diving (?) there is a whole row of water splashes - or is that something else?

Yes Nonda, been there too with them fleeing the scene as soon as I show up.:)

Groups like this are particularly hard to photograph. I rarely create one I like so I understand where your at. One thing I try to do is capture them when an interesting pattern develops. That may not work for ducks, but Coots it can. They stay in tight groups and their undulating movement can translate well into an interesting image.

Keep up the good work. You are getting better each day.

Antia it is the one thing you can see well in the orig size, that is water splashes and 3 taking off, rather gets lost here.

Robert, thanks. I am working at trying to get set up to get closer, many of these guys aren't here for long. I have just become fascinated by ducks, next week should be the big migration push, so maybe.
