    Default Red-necked Phalaropes

    Hi

Another photo from my trip to Arctic Norway last week. On our first morning out in Varanger we came across a small pond on the small nature reserve on Vadsosoya which is the small island opposite Vadso. We were greeted with the sight of approximately 80 spinning red-necked phalaropes. Amazing when the UK population is about a dozen on one of the Shetland Islands. Light conditions and weather were not great and remained that way for the first three days of the trip!

This pair decided it was time in for some mating directly in front of me, so this is completely full frame as the birds where typically completely oblvious to human presence.

Taken with 1DmkIV and 500mm lens on a monopod and a pair of chest waders. Taken at IS0 400 F7.1 1/400s and +0.3 EV. I was using fill flash but this shot was taken while the flash was recycling.

    Cheers

    Rich

Great capture of this moment, sharpness looks good, too. I think you did really well considering the available light.

I really like the smooth, even lighting. Great feather detail and the colors are lovely.

Thanks for the comments. We had a lost of wasted photos with these spinning birds due to the poor light.

    Cheers
