    Default Ethereal Rose

After doing a lot of image making with apertures stopped down to f/22 for maximum depth of field and clarity, I went the opposite extreme and made these images wide open at f/2.8 in an effort to cause the rose to look more dreamy, ethereal.

The real question now is whether there is enough still in focus to hold the viewers' attention. That is my question now.

Image made with Rebel XT and Sigma 70mm Macro lens handheld.

    1/60 sec at f/2.8, ISO 400; EC=0

I like the soft DOF effect and the spirals I think the idea works well.

There seems to be a little bit of noise in the shadows that looks strong for only 400 ISO, could be just a processing issue.

    Hey Ed,
I agree with Robert on the shadow areas being a bit noisy. I love the composition and soft feel of this. Did you happen to take one at f4 or so for comparison. Would be neat to see if people prefer a little more DOF or as is. I'm going to be experimenting with different f stops also. My vote for now would be for a little more but nowhere near f22,

I really like the depth of field and softness, as it makes it a very soothing and relaxing picture. I also do agree with the shadows being very strong.
    Great Work.

Thank you all for your comments and feedback. I like this image a lot. I may go back and play with PP a bit to see I can do anything with the shadows. Again thanks and glad to hear that you liked the image as well.
