    Default With Friends Like These...

You might remember Steve's great image of a Kestrel flying away from the nest. This morning the young birds started to get really active. One of them was flapping a lot and his sibling pushed a bit from behind. He had trouble holding on and his sibling didn't really help and bit in his leg. In the next frame the Kestrel fell and sat in the meadow the rest of the morning. I hope he is going to make it. I put the falling feather a bit higher than it originally was.

Just about perfect. I guess I wouldn't mind seeing the other sibling's eye a bit better, but the whole image is outstanding. The nice light, clean BG, and great poses of the kestrels all add to it.

    Well Done!!

Sometimes with birds, just like humans, you want to knock some sense into them! This is a great behavior shot. Great expression on the falling fledgling. I don't think it had time to register yet, what was happening. Love the background.

Thank you, I wouldn't mind seeing breeding saw-whets sometime.

Axel, that turned out great. I did not get a clear view of his head like you did. You picked a great day to come and I'm happy you were rewarded. Nice light angle and background, too. :)

Super behavioral image! Like how the falling one is caught in peak of action and how clear the biting action is. Hope the fallen one turns out fine.

Nature photography at its best - fantastic shot with a great (somewhat sad) story.
