I just got back from a great vacation in Destin, FL. while I was there, I met a bunch of photography enthusiasts. The camera of choice was definitely the 7D. I spent a lot of time taking pics of my family and didn't get to use my new bigmos as much as I had hoped for. But I did have a fantastic time shooting some dolphins on a cruise. On that boat alone there were 3 7Ds. It seems like everywhere we went we saw the 7D.
It looks like Canon has a winner with this one...One of the guys I met let me snap a few with his. I shot some gulls and I have to say that I was very impressed with the AF.
My wife and I love ours. Just be sure to watch your histogram and do not under expose more than 1/2 stop. We find up to ISO 400 is excellent without noise reduction. Over 400 we use Noiseware Pro.
Hi Ed With that camera I don't under expose any !!!!! .. even the half will get you in trouble !!!
btw the only real bad feature about the camera and all others of same build has to be the way you change the modes. When carrying over my shoulder it can go from manual to green mode in two seconds, wheel rubs agains your shirt !! Have missed a few because of that. Try looking before shooting !!
agreed Alfred I absolutely hate that new wheel I have become so frustrated with that thing I have contemplated gluing it to AV ! Hopefully they ditch that thing on future models !
Megapixels sell themselves I guess. Lots of folks love the AF too. Canon delivered a fundamentally different and new AF system in the 1.6x cameras. And they improved noise characteristics over the 50D. These three things plus video plus 100% viewfinder....they ticked a lot of checkboxes with this one.
If you're having trouble with the mode dial changing, you might take a piece of gaffer's tape and wrap it around the mode dial. It means changing between Aperture Priority and Manual will be a pain, but it's a least a possible solution to the problem of missing opportunities due to the dial turning on you.
