    Default Mating mourning doves

One of the first images shot with the 7d a few months back. Cropped (wing was already clipped) rotated and curves adjustment. Let me know what you think!

    Peter,

I am guessing you were handheld allowing you to move around and do it relatively fast. In this case you needed to back up (if possible) to at least get the feet of the bottom one in. Not a biggy clipping the wing of the top one, but with one pigeon mounting the other, without a base to support them in the image it looks awkward.

Think vertical in situations like this too.

The soft light on them is intriguing and you handled the exposure well. Since they are dark, they stand out from the bright BG.

Peter, you are definitely on the right track to capture behaviour like this. it adds so much interest to an image. To add to what Robert said, I think your image would have a lot more "pop" if you were able to move around to the right to that the birds were angled towards you rather than away. The filtered light made it difficult for you but a fill flash may have helped to even out the light.

Thanks for the feedback. When I cropped the image I intentionally took out the perch since it was just a brick wall and was quite unattractive. I seem to have problems with finding a good point to shoot from because I can never move right (there was a large tree to the right), I also tried to stay still as to not scare the birds off. They were weary when they noticed me at first and seemed to get comfortable with my presence.
