    I believe this is a second year juvenile. It was feeding on a catfish carcass on an open beach. I was able to get within 100' (30m) of it. SonyA700, 70-400G @400mm, f7.1, 1/1600, iso400, ev 0.0.

    personally, i think you did as well as you could in the conditions. light looks harsh/contrasty. as is, i would darken the inside of the beak under the eye and sharpen the eye some. that bird has an intense stare going on so the head angle doesnt bother me too much.

    Agree with Harold's assessment. Just softer light will make it better

    ....don't forget leaving comments after posting an image.

    Hi Peter, Agree about the light(which is everything in photography)I would have given a bit more room on the right and taken some off the left. Nicely muted backround and well framed top to bottom...

    Nice picture Peter, I like the simple BG. I think maybe a bit more sharpening. Did well to get the capture and under this light.
