Well here is my take on this wonderful little bird, taken in the Shetlands on the most northerly point of the UK. He literally just surfaced out of his burrow and then shortly waddled off to find some new grass to line his home in.:)

    Hi Steve,

I like the way the light comes back through the beak and I can see the extra details in the eye. They are such an addictive subject to photograph.

The sharp grass bottom right corner catches my eye so I might blur that in a similar way to the LHS.

    Cheers

    Austin

nice pose and sharpness here, good colors. you either need to have a sharp grass in FG or whole OOF green patch, having two at the same time distracts quite a bit from the subject.

I like the angle, look-back pose, sharpness and setting. The repost looks good, I would only desaturate the reds a bit and tone down the whites on the left side.

Steve, winner IMO. Liked the way you have handled the difficult light angle here.

    Hi Steve

Prefer the repost. I have always been a fan of the over the shoulder look and it works very well with puffins and you have picked a good setting for this photo. Back lighting has worked well to make the beak shine. Looks very sharp and exposure is good.

    Cheers
