I am wanting to get recordings to help lure Blue Jays and various other birds. I have tried to google for them with no luck. Can anyone give suggestions?

Before using bird song to attract birds make sure you read the ABA Code of Ethics which can be found at: -

To further enhance the calls you can use the following program or similar to remove the spoken words.

It does Norm, and this is what I use right now. But it is missing some songs like Scarlet Tanager for example. Other common ones are missing too. When I queried them on it they said they had lost their rights to the song and others from the recordist, which sounds like a very peculiar way to run a business but anyway .......
Are you missing Scarlet Tanager?
BTW I have iBird Canada and have wondered whether I need to upgrade to a better version to get the songs I'm missing.
iBird Pro has the Scarlet Tanager listed but the song is not there :( I noticed a bunch of others that are the same and I agree thats not the greatest
I have birdjam as well which is not missing anything from what I can tell :) they just relased an iphone app but I have not tested it yet
Surprized no-one has mentioned this site:
http://www.xeno-canto.org/america/
19 separate recordings of Blue Jay! and thousands of others from the US and around the world.
do the recordings from birdjam attract birds? After reading the info from their website, it sounds like that its to help identify them not attract them.
It also looks like there are many options with birdjam. What are the bare essentials to attract lets say Bluebirds/BlueJays? I live in So. California
Allen,
I have a set of songs on my ipod from Birdjam. They do work but not universally. I think birds have individualized responses and their "mood" changes from time to time. So on some days it works unbelievably well and other days not at all. Bluejays respond well often, Bluebirds not as well (in my area). Woodpeckers also tend to respond well.
You'll need a set of small, battery powered speakers as well. (I use the Maingo from birdjam)
I think it's a worthwhile investment and used judiciously it can bring subjects closer to your camera. They don't always land and pose in just the right spot though.

Recordings were originally conceived as an ID help tool and to learn to recongnize the songs, but bird photographers (and many birders) have adapted their use for attracting birds closer for better photographs and/or viewing pleasure.
I haven't heard the birdjam recordings yet, but of the other ones I've heard I prefer the Stokes' as the recordings are much longer than most (some up to 1 minute in lenght). Joel is right that using audio works sporadicly, but when it does it works wonders! BTW bluebirds tend to respond in my area (but its not needed as they frequent reletavely approachable nestboxes) so you just never know!
If yo haven't read it yet be sure to read this article on audio use, there is sure to have some pertinent info for you:

Daniel,
the birdjam recordings are edited from the Stokes Field Guide.
as mentioned the original app crashed often. the second not so much, but there still seems to be issues with on my ipod. you can always just use the ipod search feature.
i bought with intention of calling in birds, however it is a fantastic tool to learn bird songs also.
I bought the iPhone app for Audubon thinking it would have what I needed and that was the ability to play and loop the audio and it does not. (-19.95)
I then bought the BirdJam and the Eastern and Western kit, (-160.00). I have not played with it yet because the CD's are being mailed to me. It was my understanding that the BirdJam app would allow me to take any bird audio and remove narritive's from the audio track?
I am now looking at getting the speaker setup mentioned earlier in this post and should be all set.
Thank you for those that have responded to this post and I hope that after all of this, I can capture some beautiful birds....
Try going to http://ebirdr.com I have been playing the songs on my computer. It seems there is a way to get it to your iphone, but I am not sure. Anyway it's free.
I believe the use of recordings are not allowed in National Wildlife Refuges nor at any Massachusetts Audubon Sanctuaries during breeding season.
