    Default Bald Eagle - Juvi

Trying to rescue the details on the feet without looking too fake. To get the exposure good enough to get details on the dark feather, need to compensate, but that would clip the highlights.
Is there a better way to do this? I refused to use beamer on them. Perhaps +2/3EV?

    Manual
    Exposure: 0.002 sec (1/640)
    Aperture: f/8.0
    Focal Length: 700 mm
    ISO Speed: 500
    Exposure Bias: +1 EV
    Flash: No Flash

Hi Troy, I used curves and a layer mask to lighten some of the feather detail but in this light you would need fill flash to even out the tones in the shadow area.

Thank you Don, looks better than mine.
I refused to use beamer on them, besides there were other photographers there.

That is you prerogative but I have yet to see any evidence that using flash especially fill flash in daylight harms birds or any other subject.

Maybe I will give it a shot next time when there are less photographers around.
    Thank you for the suggestion.

Good looking eagle Troy, and overall nice and sharp. I would experiment with more EC, as its easier to recover highlights than bring out detail in shadows. You will be surprised how much more detail you will get, and not really blowing any highlights.

Good find, interesting pose and sharpness looks good, too. I would selectively tone down the feet using curves and/or highlight recovery. I would also desaturate the sky a bit, it looks almost a bit purple on my monitor.
