Hi Hilary, the composition and intensive stare I like, position of the lion is spot on. Might run a fraction of NR over the BG, plus if there is any, add a fraction more about too.

I take it that it was a little dark, I like that you chose not to add light.

    Is this a young male?

    Thanks Steve and Harshad.

Steve, I have re-cropped but that is about it for extra space apart from a little more on the right which has some very bright blades of grass … yuk! :o

Hilary, just a fraction more above, nothing more and a little NR.

Agree on the 'yuk' grass :D

    Steve ;)

Like your OP here Hilary, a great pose well captured. Perhaps a tad more selective USM on the Lion and opposite on the sharper blades of grass.

    Hilary,
I love the perspective. Space at the top is fine, and I would less space at the right of the reposted image. With such an intense stare, I didn't notice the noise in the background. The bush on the left of the image adds to the image. In my opinion, this would work better than just a tight crop of the lion as the bush adds to the character here. Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi

Ken, I was told that he and his brother were around two years old and the manes (or lack thereof) would probably support this. It was almost 6pm and as you know, in the equatorial regions it is getting pretty dark by this time and of course they were still lying under the trees, as lions are wont to do!

Harshad, I would never mind you re-working one of my images … seeing your own photos through another's eyes is always interesting and increases the learning curve … thank you.

Steve, I'll go back and re-crop and Marc will see about the sharpening. Thank you all.

Well, I have done a re-crop somewhere between the first and the second, done some selective sharpening on the head and then some more on the eyes and run some "anti-matter" ;) over the background.

I don't think this lion really deserves too much more attention ..... :D

Hi Hilary Tweaks have made a difference !!! Just look at original and last !!

The tight crop in interesting and works but rather see the larger image, like the idea of seeing the hidden in the grass !!

Thanks Steve, glad it was worth the effort. Each image and rework means a little more learnt.
