    Default Young Vixen Near Sunset

    This was an unexpected opportunity.

While photographing barn swallows in flight in late evening, a young female fox came by, and after checking me out, she sat a few minutes for a portrait.

I normally shoot in Manual mode, but was experimenting with Shutter Priority for the erratic swallows. Rather than risk having the fox leave, I kept SP while photographing her.

    Comments and critiques always welcome.

Like the tight crop and the dark BG. I think I see some noise in the BG too.

Thanks ... I appreciate the comments.

There should be little or no noise visible at this resolution and size. Looking at this page, I don't see any on my calibrated monitor. The color variation is some dark green emerging from the BG blacks.

However when I enlarge this crop to 'actual pixels' I do see some noise, that I'll remove if I decide to print the image.

Thanks again for the observations ! :)

Makes you wonder why foxes are considered to be vermin, it is a beauty.

Beautiful shot. It's all in the eyes.

Hi Bill, I loved this shot, the shapes of those upright ears, and the pointy muzzle make for a very strong composition, and you have done a great job on DOF with the eyes. Wonderful, warm light and an excellent BG. That would be a keeper for me.

Lovely. I like the warm lit scene. I am sure this must have come as a pleasant surprise. I like the eyes. I think the ISO could have been reduced a bit without sacrificing on the sharpness, as you had plenty of shutter speed. Overall, very nice. Look forward to other compositions. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Bill, Killer light and animal. There is some obvious noise in the lighter area of green close to her far eye. Very sharp. I would add a bit of canvas above. All in all quite well done.
