I was actually planning to photograph Pygmy Nuthatches and as I was setting up I discovered this family of curious Yellow-bellied Marmots in the rocks right next to me! I have never seen young marmots and these were adorable. There were a total of 4 youngsters and as much as they climbed all over mama she never moved from her sentry post. Ligting was tough as the marmots were in the shade and the foreground granite was in the sunlight. I took many photos and merged one of the other foreground shots with this photo.

    Canon 40D, Canon EF300 f4/L IS, f6.3, 1/400, ISO 400.

    Comments and instruction very welcome.

    .. why didn't you used the 7D :)

Cute image, Like all head positions and the little extra room up top, might even have some extra up front. For this the new camera will be good since you can increase the ISO for being able to stop down ... good for groups !! .. just don't under expose !

In PS you could selectively blur the bg a bit more the darken corners (just a bit) to draw attention to the center !!! ... adorable they are !!!
