They are sure nice, I remember seeing them while waiting for my D3. It is a superb camera for sure.

Hi Dale Look at the black foreground. Some serious nose there . In the light colors there is not much. Also that image does not depend on sharpness. If it did you would see more differences.

I did have a Mk3 and was amazed at the clean ISO ..... looking back compared to the Mk2. Now the D3 is in a league of its own. I'm sure Canon will come up with one as good or better in the next couple of years or before For now the D3 has no peers !!!

I respectfully disagree, I've downloaded quite a few D3 files. Noise looks very close, maybe a slight edge to the D3 and detail seems a bit better in the MK3 file IMO. Loolks like Nikon is doing some noise reduction in their raw files. I saw some really techincal articles (I didn't understand much) but they concluded sensor efficency was very close between the two cameras. And remeber that is a 100% crop I posted so the noise in the dark area seems every bit as good as the 6400 images the OP referenced. Anyway just my opinion and yours is just as valid..:)

I remember when i owned a 1d3 and ISO 1000 was VERY noisy.... I have RAWS to prove it ;)
I have owned BOTH cameras and there is simply no comparison.

Remember, we are talking about one year of technology apart ;)

    Here's a 1D3 ISO 2500 pixel crop:
