Doing skimmers with Oz borrowed his Sigma 120-400 and seemed to work fine, good AF acquisition and sharp. The only negative was the zooming, difficult since it was stiff. Just shot a few frames but got a few good ones. Did not change exposure settings, not bad Oscar :)

    Comments welcome and much appreciated

excellent details in blacks and whites and sharp!!! fine texture in the whites! perfect focus!

So Sigma lenses not that bad after all, but I have a hard time imaging someone having a D3 and not use Nikon glass!

Hi Al - I like this very much. Great pose and detail. I see a small spot just below and to the left of the right wing tip of the bird. Looks like sensor dust but could be cloud. I would clone it out. Again, great shot.

    Rachel

Beautiful shot, Alfred. I like how the little puff of clouds behind his head makes him stand out nicely.

Very nice, something I'd like to have among my files. Nice detail overall, eye visible and beak open. Love the BG with the clouds.

Great upwing, open beak pose. Sharp and well exposed. Glad to know the Sigma has good AF acquisition -- something not all the Nikon lenses can claim (e.g. my 80-400).

Hi Arash, I knew Fabs and Al were going to make me walk forever to get to these guys so I wanted to travel light and didn't take my 500vr, big mistake on my part. Hopefully Nikon will decide to make something like the Canon 100-400 soon.
    Regards,

Nikon already has its 100-400 for years. It's called 80-400 f4.5-5.6 D ED VR.

I know they do, as a matter of fact I owned one and the AF was so slow that I hardly used it. Sold it and got the Sigma and it's a lot better as far as the AF. They been talking about a new lens to replace the 80-400, that's what I meant.

Oz I have used several 80-400 VR and the AF was just fine ! Just a bit slower than others but does the job !!

The main beef is not being sharp at the long end but recently had one person test it and the results were surprising !!! She used a test target and there was not much difference from 300 to 400 !! btw if you get a copy with a smooth zoom its a keeper !!!
