Thought I would share this one - you always get to see the shots we are happy with - never the shots that don't make it - SO here's a spectacular failure!!!

Ventured out last weekend and found this guy being harassed - got excited and ........

    Were did I go wrong!!!!!

Probably the center focus point did not make contact with any of the two, Exciting, though :)

Thanks for sharing the rejects; makes us mere mortals feel a bit better. Looks like the single-point AF didn't strike home. At 1/2000 I would think there was enough SS, but maybe with this action it could have been higher??

Thanks for posting a less then perfect picture Lance.
I am looking forward to hearing what the problem was.
I have the D200. Hmm isn't the shooting bank the A,B,C series of settings you can choose, so that you can quickly adjust for different types of photography.
So you may have had the wrong bank chosen, maybe the setting you use for low light photography.
Doing the morning reset wouldn't have cleared the settings either.
Please tell us ... so we can avoid that error. Strike that, so we know when we have made that error. :-)
    Take care
    Clive

Simple: you were in a hurry and just wanted to grab the shots fast and so didn't pay attention to the settings or even did not have time to adjust them to the proper ones. This could happen to anyone if he/she is in a hurry and is unable to adjust fast. I think we can talk about what settings would be the best after the fact. But if we cannot adjust fast, all the right settings we know of do not mean anything.

    Lance,

Greetings. I think a couple of flips, some pp, and a different aspect ratio gives it a chance... The pp needs to start with raw (rather than with a small jpeg)...

The orientation of the crow (?), with the better HA is easier on the eye to orient from and left to right (at least in Western culture), I think, settles the viewer on a reasonable orientation.

If it were mine I'd call it salvageable but ymmv ;) (of course, I miss by a lot more than this!)

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Hi Guys - I thought it was worthwhile to show a reject - shoot lots of images to get the few that are keepers and sometimes like this time - no keepers - This one is not something I would try to salvage.

Mihael you could be right maybe I was holding the camera upside down.

I was using the bank of settings that I had setup for still subjects with single point AF - I have a BIF bank that gives me 51point 3D AF - which would have gone a long way to solving the issue - IMHO - the single point did not get a lock on anything in particular.
Exposure was not great either - sun hidden behind clouds a few seconds before and then bingo out it came!! Just what I wanted.

agree with Desmond - need to adjust fast - got too caught up in the excitement of what was happening and just forgot to check those settings - of course by the time I realised I had a choice keep shooting and hope there was something worth saving - or quickly change the settings and hope they didnt fly out of range.
Went with the first option and lucked out!!!
