    I like the low angle and unusual pose on this grebe -- good job on keeping the whites on the beak

    Neat "alarmed" pose. Looks like you had harsh light to deal with, making for a quite contrasty image. I would remove the blue cast on the bird's face...and speaking of blues, they look oversaturated too. Yes, they do have a large head releative to body size!

    Interesting pose and good eye contact. Adding to the other comments, I would try to get more details in the blacks.

    Pied-billed Grebes look like this when they are giving their call/song. There's some head movement involved so you need a high SS to stop the action, which I think you have done here Steve, more or less (there's a hint of movement in the face and bill). Love the liquid-gold/silver water.
