    Default No elephant here!

To follow on from my image of the elephant with giraffe in the background, I have processed this image taken of just the giraffes. Cropped from the bottom and a little from the top.

It annoys me that the one Grevy's zebra has its' head partly obscured by a termite mound.

This is very nice as Al says good clouds and colour, just needed a few more heads up to make it even better.

Was it a nursery Hilary or just a group outing? Not sure what the 'collective' name is for a heard, Ken?

I believe the name for a group of giraffes is a tower. I agree with the comments that this has a nice feel and the color looks good.

Steve a "heard" of Giraffe is known to me and most people I have met as a Journey.

The most I saw in one go was 28 in the Selous in Tanzania , but there they are in plague like proportions:)

I have heard a group of giraffes called both a tower and a journey. An internet search revealed both are correct and so are herd and corps. There are a couple of other terms out there too.

This was just many adult giraffe out browsing. We called them herds when I was young so herds it will remain.

Each species of animal now appears to have a collective noun given to it, each one outdoing the next in cleverness but I find it rather pretentious nonsense and prefer to stick to the old, tried and true 'herds', 'prides', 'mobs' and 'flocks' etc. :D

I have it as a "Journey" of giraffes :)

Stunning scape here Hilary - amazing how the giraffes of Central Africa differ from ours down here in the South.

The zebbie doesn't bother me too much - a lot to take in here. We also don't have Grevy's zebra here...:)

Thanks Morkel. Indeed the various sub-species of giraffe are amazing and beautiful. Have you seen pictures of the ones in West Africa? I don't think enough is made of giraffe photographically … probably because they are quite hard to show in an interesting way due to their height.

I could not disagree with that statement
