We have had ravens around our neighbourhood for a couple of years now. The adults appear to have fledged two young birds this year. On Sunday evening I managed to catch up with the family as they perched on a pair of hydro poles.
I witnessed an unusual behaviour, at least to me. As I photographed the birds I watched them as they appeared to feed on lichen growing on the cross supports of the poles. I'm not sure if they were eating it for nutrients or just out of curiousity. John if you or anyone else has any ideas I'd be happy to learn more.
