    took this shot in my local disused quarry,hazey sunshine,nice warm day.there are about 5 of these young birds knocking about.cannon50d,400mm prime lens cannon,1/1000 sec,f5.6,iso800,hand held.thanks.comments good or bad.

    Cute little young fella, looking a bit vulnerable. I like the very subtle head turn towards us. Good exposure, and lovely BG with some attractive streaking to it. I'd probably crop away about half of the rock at bottom as that lower half is unattractive and distracting anyhow - this would also help the comp IMO. Critical focus looks to be on the wing, therefore you could try some selective sharpening to the face area to hopefully bring it up to par. Lastly, I would run some NR to the BG.

    Daniel nailed the critique well. Totally agree in the streaked BG on top but the large OOF rock in the FG is distracting and grabs the eye too much. Cropping it will strengthen the image a lot.

    Pose, eye contact, soft light and BG make this one for me. Another vote for sharpening the head more and I would run NR on the BG.
