    Default Catalina - Southend Airshow

    Hey Guys

    Catalina mid display for you.

I am quite fond of this pic, I really like the clouds in the back ground, aircraft well exposed (in my opinion),nice amount of prop blur.

Such a graceful aircraft love her to bits

    C&C always welcomed

nah you are more then welcome, working on a small laptop at the moment and didnt spot all the dust spots, removed a couple of larger ones.

    Ty :)

I have been working on the shadows on it, but couldnt decide if/how to lighten them and give the natural feel

Hi Peter, I like the image for reasons stated above. Harold's repost was an improvement on the OP. Your final post was a radical departure from your original post. The added warmth helps the image but the clouds have an entirely different look. I like this lighting with the smoothness of the clouds in H's repost...

She's a beauty. I really like the angle you got on this one, and the clouds and warm light really make it.

Happy to. My "secret" is that I start off with an idea of what I want to see (eventually), then play and experiment
until I get there or close to it. I usually end up with a haphazard stack of layers, which in this case looks like this:

Rather than talk through all that, I'll give you the psd file and you can turn on each layer from the bottom up to see my tortured path. :D Here's a download link (18 MB):

The key is getting that idea in your head of what you want. I was envisioning an illustration such as you might find on the cover
of an old paperback or maybe a children's book. Here's another version I just did starting with that same idea ...
