Default For Fabs: 4X Whistling ducks synchronized flight

I got this image on Lake Blue Cypress with Al, Fabs and Axel, Al's early warning gave us time to concentrate and I was able to pull this before they passed by, all four in focus and wings down :D

    1DMKIV 500f/4, f/5.6 1/2500sec ISO 400, HH from boat. Thaks Fabs!

Great that there is no overlap and the similar wing positions, early light and sharpness add to it. I might crop a bit off the top.

This is so good that it is barely believable. Killer light, four perfect head angles and wing positions, incredibly sharp, perfect spacing. Yes to a crop from the top.

First I thought it was PS work. Amazing to have all 4 in the same position wings down. Congrats.

Arash, wow...this is awesome. Its hard to get two to be that much in synchro!! getting four is way over the top. Liked the crop too. Well done.

    All right!!!!! Terrific catch.
That's the difference from the slow 5D2 to the burst of 1d4, mine were all with the wrong wing position, not fast enough to get the right flap.

    Big congrats!

Fabs, you are forgetting that even with a 10 fps camera and a shutter speed of 1/2500 sec. you are missing 97.5% of the possible poses. And the situation is actually worse than that as the cameras are not capable of 10 fps in AI Servo AF....

Yes, but though Arash had about 4 times the chance that you had for this great image his chances were quite tiny! Yours were just tinier.... :)

Just a little daydreaming (and PS practice) ... not intended as criticism of a capture that really is amazing. ;)

Thanks guys :) Good suggestion I will crop from the top and repost later.

Thanks David for cleaning up the BG.

Very good points by Artie and Fabs, chances of getting all four with the right pose is slim, say each ducks has 20% chance of having wings full down, then the chances of all four having wings down is 1.6%!!! But everything else being equal 1DMKIV has 2.5 X the chances of capturing the right pose, does help in situations like this.

Thanks Fabs for letting me use the camera, just got one for myself :D

Excellent job Arash. The symmetry is almost hard to believe. The birds look like clones. Beautiful light. Extremely well done on all the techs also.

Cool repost by David with some killer extractions. But you left some ducks parts in the trees :)

What did you use for the extractions???

Quick and (obviously) dirty -- quick select tool with some quick mask cleanup.

Arash, the light, sharpness, similar flying postures, all add up to an amazing image. Very well captured here. They come much better than this.

    Absolutely stunning Arash.

I think it's safe to say that you will never accomplish this again with such perfect alignment of the wing positions.

I'd be proud as heck of it...and I like the more pano type crop.

Thanks for the ORIG Arash. Can you confirm that you did nothing to the BKGR? (It looks like just a perfect crop.) BTW, I love the final pano look.

Hi Artie, done nothing to the BKGR, just slight NR, sharpen the ducks and 16:9 crop as above. Did not touch anything in RAW converter either.
