    Jim:

Perfect exposure, very sharp, nice pose, display of feet. Pleasant BG.

In a perfect world, I wish he was clear of the rock on the left. I might consider a small crop from the left to reduce the impact of that rock.

    Cheers

    Randy

    Randy...

I've got images without the rock in the background as well, but I kinda liked this one as it shows more of the habitat within which they were feeding, preening, etc.

I'll post a cleaner one some other time.

    Jim:

It is always your story to tell. I do like the little pool of water. It adds a little extra detail to the image, and I found myself returning to it. Not distracting in anyway, just a little bonus.

Angle, look-back pose, light and setting look very good. As in the other one, I would sharpen a bit less.

    Interesting Axel...

When I felt it was sharpened correctly, I actually masked the bird and ran a Gaussian blur on it just for you :)

I guess we'll have to see what others think.

I did make an appointment to get my eyes checked Tuesday :)

It's mainly head and chest that look a bit 'crisp' on my monitor. :)

Nice to see these guys around so late in the season.
Great pose and eye contact. I like the rock and especially the visible feet.
    Great plumage detail too.

That bird does not suffer of hunger :)
Very nice presentation and lots of detail, even in the feet. Well done, Jim.

Super low angle Jim, and I like the light and colours. Well captured.

For this image, pointing the lens a bit to the right would have improved it for the reasons that Randy mentioned in his excellent critique. I am not too familiar with this species but this surely looks like breeding plumage. Only the face looks over-sharpened. EXP perfect.
