    Default Nesting Flicker

A pile of "sawdust" caught my eye and led me to this flicker's nest. With the tree in a small gully I was able to get to eye level with the nest. Kept the lower ISO to help reduce noise but forgot to stop down a bit when I put the TC on. Didn't want to stay around the nest to long. 40D, 400DO + 2xTC, f8, 1/8s, ISO 400, +1/3 EC, tripod, MLU, cable release, cropped a small amount on left, top, and bottom.

Steve, I like the intimate nature of this bird in it's nest. I can see enough of the flicker for ID, and the one talon gripping the edge of the pine is a nice touch. Good find, composition, eye contact and detail here.

Nice one Steve and I love the spots that show up in the photo. Great flicker photos like this have eluded me over the years. Nice orange mustache, by the way. Cool shot.

They seem to nest at a low angle, good for you. I hope you will be able to follow their progress. Sharpness looks very good considering the low shutter speed.

Hey Steve, good DOF, and I like your choice of comp. The flicker is placed nicely central in the nest, and I like the colours on the head. Well captured.
