    Default The Lion Sleeps Tonight

Taken in the Sabi Sands in August 2010. Our tracker had spent the vast majority of the day searching for a pride of lions that taken down a buffalo the night before. We finally found them just before sunset and they were mostly flat cats. The terrain was also difficult (there was a ditch in front of the vehicle so we could not go any further). We had so much success with lion shots on the trip that I decided to play a little and try something different. I like it but reaction among my co-workers has been split. I'm interested in your reactions.

    Canon 50D
    16-35 II @ 26mm
    1/500
    f5.6
    ISO 400
Selectively lightened the lion and increased saturation in the sky, contrast increased as well.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

    Rachel

Hi Rachel, Good job handling the exposure and the PP. I like the positioning of the lion on a diagonal to the sun. The image is divided well 2/3-1/3 with a possible crop below your name and a small bit more added to the bottom.
Overall I like the image due to it's uniqueness.

I like it. A very interesting composition and some choice of lens.
Wow, you must have been pretty close.
I am not sure if something funny from pp'n is going on witht he sky or not.
I also like a bit off the top.
    Very nice.

Hi Rachel - going to come down to personal tastes with this one I think - all the techs are ticked as mentioned above - so cant really fault it there.
For me - my eye gets drawn to the brightest part of the image which is that wonderful sun (can feel its warmth) which leaves the sleeping lion kinda lost.
Different and some will like and some wont - THATS a good thing!!!!

Hi Rachel Like different and this is !! With the suggested crop by Dave the image will be strengthen !

I can see what Lance is saying but I find the lion so strong that my eyes goes to him ... the tech info of using a 16-35 @ 26 Wild !!!! ... mostly flat cats ... new expression for me !!! Got some of those around the house :)

Agree with Lance. My eyes keep going back to the Sun instead of the main subject: the Lion.
Wonderful shot though! Glad he wasn't hungry.

Thanks all for the comments. Here's an attempt at the suggested crop. Thanks again.
