    like the title Much to like: the pose. low angle and the detail Looks like the lite is coming from the right thus face is a little dark. Might lighten face a tad. Might consider removing the branches behind to the right of the bird, they are little distracting.

    Hi Ian - good looking bird - light angle is a issue here - causing some shadows - try some shadow highlight maybe.
    Like the pose and looks sharp. branches are a tad distracting - but do show the habitat so I would leave.

    Hi Ian,
    I like the pose in this one, main problem here is the deep shadows as pointed out. but you did well, if you wait long enough sometimes they move into ideal position with respect to the light.

    Just the light angle as noted Ian You are not going to have many keepers this way !! Best to get on light angle before shooting .... even is the bird flies away and you don't get to take a shot !!!

    Thanks. I have a similar image with his head turned looking towards the right. In that one, the light hits his head nicely, but the composition isn't as pleasing to me. Ah well ... onward and upward ...
