Hi John Glad you captured the bird low on the tree !!! Like the bg, would fill in the white area by the tree ...carefully !! beak wise is fine with me but could go either way, does look natural !!

Image could be sharper, not sure if its the shutter speed/movement? or can stand another pass of sharpening ...easy to find out, any slight blurred image will look strange as you increase the sharpening !! Like it a lot !!!

btw agree with your tech settings in keeping the ISO to 640 and taking a chance on the shutter speed, with that bg easy to get lots of noise !!

Hi John, great advice by Al! Additionally good lighting and diagonal tree. I have no problem with the beak!

I really like that nice head turn. It seems hard to get with woodpeckers.
I agree that the beak is up to you, and if you do I would also take off the little dot on the breast.

    Nice composition as well.

Really like the pose, eye level angle and HA. Agree little more sharpening. Might consider decrease the exposure or increase the contrast of the tree slightly

hi John - beak looks fine to me - agree with al's fine critique.
Does look a little soft and strange on my screen - any NR on the whole image??
Pose and ha are all good.
    Doing well!!

Great comments and suggestions so far. Agree with sharpening, and I'm not a fan at all of cleaning up the beaks.
