i took this last week at a local bird sanctuary. the bird was on a roof so i was able to get this kinda funky image. i only hated that it was sidelit.

    D300, 120-400 at i dont have the exif but i'll guess 200mm, f/5, 1/400s, ISO 1250. it was late!!!

thanks for looking. comments and critiques much appreciated.

The light looks like it has a nice soft glow to it, and although it would have been nice to have full front lighting, the side lighting is not that noticeable.

I really like the nice simple composition and nice very soft bg grading from blue to white.

Full dof would have been very nice as well.

Do like it Harold, would possible have liked more DoF but in the circumstances i dont think that was much of an option!

The side light here isnt an issue, eye contact is spot on!

    Very nice :)

Hi Harold - like were you were going with this one - different - like the soft hues and the visible eyes.
Would have liked the bill to be sharp and in focus aslo.
    Like it!!

    Hi Harold,
Crazy looking bird man, the only thing that bothers me a little is the motion blur at the tip of the bill.

Seems like an easy shot but hard to do .. those guys never cooperate :) .. key for these is stopping down as much as you can !!!

Wow, this is the kind of shot I would use for competition. So unique.

Great idea - unique perspective and nice comp, but doesn't quite work for me without more dof.

thanks guys. i totally agree that more dof would have been great. i was maxed out here though because of the low light and no tripod.
