Bald Eagle top bank and grey cloud, near Homer AK.

This image was made during one of my Bald Eagle workshops this year. I have quite a few top bank images with normal blue sky BGs but I prefer this one. Soft warm sunlight is falling on the eagle and the passing dark grey cloud give the image some nice contrast.

This was made in Feb, the weather was perfect, sunny, cloudy and warmer than FL when I left!

    Nikon D700 with MB-D10 and Sigma 100-300 F4. manual mode 1/1600th @ F5.6 and ISO 400.

Full frame, had to add a small strip of sky to the bottom edge to give the wing tip room.

This photograph was made on permit access land in the Homer area.

Cool pose, good sharpness and BG. This would probably look good as a vertical crop, too. This bird has some cleaning and preening to do. :)

Thanks, agreed about the shabby look, definitely wont win any beauty contests!

How did this guy manage to get the yellow stained tail feather?

I was wondering about that, too. Do the eagles visit landfills up there?

I have been told they do, it looks like it judging by this eagle's tail feather.

Robert, this one is really WOW. The wing spread cannot be better....and with this head angle and the tail spread....its just perfect IMO. Loved the comp/crop a lot. I love images that have a lot of space in the right direction.

Love that wingspread and the beautiful soft light. Also a nice composition to have that much space for the eagle to fly into. :)

    Hi Robert

Wonderful pose showing the back of the bird with the wings spread to perfection. I also think this would be a powerful image as a fairly tight vertical crop.

    Cheers
