Denise and I have been visiting Nickerson morning and evening since Friday. Conditions have been a bit tough with wind against sun being the rule for the most part but there is lots of good going on :)

This image was created with the Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens, the 1.4 X II TC, and the EOS-1D MIV. 1/60 sec. at f/8. Lots of noise reduction was needed.

    Oystercatchers are rocking right now....

Looks sharp to me, nice detail in the black and good job in getting both birds in focus. Here is a repost with less of the reddish cast. Looking again at my repost I think I went a bit to much with the cooling effect - but I think it shows the need for at least some of it.

I like the mood and composition in this one. What ISO did you use? I don't see a red cast in the original. I checked the white values and the blue value is actually higher than red. Ofer's repost has a strong blue cast on my monitor.

Yes Axel I agree and mentioned it in my repost - I think somewhere in between the two versions should look "right".

Thanks Axel. ISO 800. No flash. See my comment to Ofer below on the color.

Thank you sir. The average blur of the whole image showed a small red cast: R GB = 189, 186, 182. The repost here is pretty much neutral so thanks for your help and your kinds words.

Interesting, I looked at the original and checked the whites on the shoulder as I wouldn't expect reflections of sand, grass, etc. The RGB values are about 238, 242, 245. I guess this is why the image in the OP looks better on my monitor.

The original looks right to my eye, accurately represents the scene. Real sweet image with parent and chick.

Like the pose of both birds and composition. The blades of grass are a nice touch.

    Looks like a nice morning!

Original looks much more pleasing to my eye.

    Artie,
I too think the original is the most accurately represented image. The warmth of the light reflecting off the sand is what you get here under most conditions. I vote for leaving it as is.

The original does look better and like the soft warm light, if possible would some detail in the shadows !! Sweet image !!!

I also like the warmer colors of the original, nice subtle details in the black feathers of the adult.

    Thanks all :)

I actually prefer the image in Pane #7. The photo was created at 7:38 pm on a heavily overcast evening--not sure of the color of the light then. Had assumed that it would be more blue than anything....

    Artie..

Like the image and prefer something between your original and repost to the original and over the Ofer post. I'm guessing that at that time of day on a heavily overcast condition, I would have processed this at about 5800k for WB? I likely would have tried setting it off the white of the adults breast, using it as a neutral.

To me, if the blades of grass to the left of the adult and the upper sort of oof ones on the right had been cloned out, it would have made a big impact difference.

Artie, liked this one a lot. The blades of grass add a lot here IMO.

Thanks Jim. I left the grasses that you mentioned because sometimes lately I feel guilty about making the images too sterile :) But I will probably create a 2nd version here as you are correct..

Wonderful image sir. Your repost looks a bit more natural in my monitor that Ofer's version but I believe it has to do with ''tastes''. Love the picture and would not change anything in this one, except some bill clean up on the adult bird's beak. :)

Thanks JC. I have already done considerable bill clean-up :) I am trying hard to get away from making everything too, too perfect...
