These are small ground cover type flowers that are cascading off a small brick wall in our yard.
    50d, 100mm f/2.8 macro, 1/1000, f/2.8, EC+1, ISO400. Cropped.

I had seen some of the very soft looking flowers posted, so I wanted to try with a shallow dof.

Beautiful BG, Dave, and beautiful subject matter as well. One of the things about extremely shallow DOF is to try to get as much of the item in the direct focal plane as possible so you get some crisp edges and some blurred. I think this works but I also wonder if you went directly on top of the flower and looked straight down (or as close to it as you can get) if that wouldn't yield an even more pleasing comp. If they are still around, give it a try and see what you think.

Hi Dave, lovely soft feel. Agree with Jules that a little more petals in focus would be nice. You may want to run a little noise reduction, there's quite some noise showing up in the shadows.

    Hey Dave,
As someone who struggles with shallow DOF images I can personally tell you that the one in focus element is the key! Not easy but since you have many of them, sure should be fun trying!

You did a nice job with the shallow dof--you got some in focus and the rest blurred I also like the simplicity of color here. I think you could brighten it up a bit using levels. Thanks for sharing.
