Alan, a great picture as usual. Love the clean BG and the eye is compelling. We have an acorn woodpecker here in B.C. at the moment, just the 3rd recorded in B.C. May make a trip in the week to see if I can at least see it.

Outstanding! I find this a very interesting photograph due to the pose. The wing spread, open beak, and eye all portray strong emotion to me which adds drama. I realize I am anthropomorphizing and this is most likely just excellent timing on your part in capturing a landing pose but, for me the projection of feelings in images like this grabs and holds my interest. Knowing your subject and being able to anticipate it's behavior are key in producing images like this. You are a master.

    Thanks for sharing.

The following is a line from a New York Times editorial making light of the idea that one can find role models in the animal kingdom. I try and keep this in mind when viewing nature either in person or through images.

"It may be fun to find a moral lesson in that enthralling penguin movie, but anthropomorphism, like after-shave, is best used sparingly."
